Training

Our Approach

We use an active learning methodology. This means that participants are engaged and understand the relevance of the course to themselves, their organization and job. It also means that participants learn faster, remember more, apply more of what they learn to their jobs, and find the course more interesting than with traditional training methods. This methodology also works well with non-native speakers of English and cross-cultural groups.

In line with educational theory and supported by our experience, our courses generally involve more than one intervention. This means that participants have an opportunity to put into practice the knowledge and skills learned and to then reflect on areas where more change is necessary. Courses are often supported with coaching so that changed behaviour is further embedded. Repeated exposure and support means that changed behaviour is more likely and so is better value.

Where appropriate we provide, and help clients to develop, blended learning opportunities that incorporate best practice so that they are both engaging and effective. Many organizations have previously found e-learning to be both less effective and more expensive than they hoped but recent developments mean that even small organizations can now afford to take advantage of social media, video and audio to create a learning community.

The Courses we offer

Aldersgate is a Registered Education Provider (REP) of the Project Management Institute (PMI) and offers in-house project management training across a number of industries. In many cases this training leads to Project Management Professional (PMP) and Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) qualifications. However, we do more than simply get your people through training or an exam. All growth in a business is created by projects and we understand the business context of project management. We know that project management is not an end in itself but a means to an end because how well projects are managed now makes a significant difference to the profitability, if not the viability, of the firm. Even when the content of the course is decided by the need to complete a qualification our methodology allows participants to create and share their own experiences and this an effective t way to ensure relevance. If desired we can work with an internal Subject Matter Expert to create materials and examples specific to your organization.

Project management has changed significantly in the past 15 years. Previously, the technical aspects of project management were paramount, and skills such as preparing Gantt charts and calculating forward passes and backward passes. The ability to do these things remains vital to successful project management, but modern computer programmes have made these tasks much easier than before, and the critical factor is raising project management capability in a firm above its competitors is now much more about how project managers and other project staff communicate and share information in the project environment. This change is reflected in the evolution of best practice in project management in leading firms around the world. Our ability to help project managers with personal dynamics in the context of project management has been cited by clients as exceptionally valuable to improving their project management capability.

We have developed, in response to client requests, a number of courses that address the developmental needs of both general and project managers at all levels of an organization. These all meet the PMI’s Continuing Certification Requirements for maintaining the PMP qualification and can be delivered as stand-alone courses or form part of a series. The courses we offer include:

In the last two years we have found that many clients wish to improve their internal capability in training and we have developed a course that improves the skills of your internal subject matter experts so that they can develop and deliver effective and engaging training.

Aldersgate is proud to announce the arrival in MENA of the popular and long-standing Interpersonal Power & High Performance Leadership (click here for brochure) developed at the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University. This 5 day residential course will be delivered by Dr. David Bradford and Dr. Carole Robin of Stanford Business School and provides participants with an opportunity to work on what he or she uniquely needs to do to become an even more effective leader. Attendees emerge from the course able to get things done in organizations with more certainty, and less stress, and less political risk as it teaches how to exert influence in a way that is safe, authentic, and effective. The premise behind the course is that success today for mid-career managers is not about better technical skills, it is about knowing how to get things done and how to influence in one's own organizations and others. Besides being primarily aimed at work, the course will help to communicate better with spouses or children.

This will be the first time this course has taken place in Europe and we are very excited to be involved in it.
